nixon: you are extremely precious at the moment, a nasty combo of a full on head cold which is making it’s way through the family and tooth #2 is rendering you very adverse to sleep!  you won’t let daddy help you much but you do LOVE to sit and read Hairy Maclary with him.   over & over again.

E backstroke

ethan: despite having just come out of a cast and then a moonboot you blew my mind at swimming sports.   a week prior your teacher had simply entered you in one flutter-board race {which i rectified pretty quickly as even in year 0 you have never been in a flutter-board race and year 5 wasn’t a good time to start!}.  your results were amazing;

* 1st place medley

* 3rd 1 length freestyle

* 2nd 2 length freestyle

* 2nd 2 length backstroke

* 2nd 2 length breaststroke

* 1st 4 lengths freestyle

* 3rd place class relay team

you were awarded Joint Year 5 Swimming Champion with your friend with whom you share a lovely, competitive relationship and both of you showed such sportsmanship towards each other.  i was just as proud of that as i was your impressive results.

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetethan: the last 3 days have seen you come alive again after breaking your ankle.  you said to me yesterday that you felt like a normal kid again.  it made my heart soar.  you have wanted to swim, ride, play basketball, play outside and make bow and arrows with your dad.  everything will be ok x

ethan:  my heart is so heavy for you right now.  i worry about your broken bone, how long it will take to heal, your fitness and how to keep you amused without a screen, i feel like you are being robbed of your summer – the very thing we look forward to all year…….. hopefully being back at school tomorrow will inject a well needed dose of normality into your days xx

ethan.  i love this picture of you, you are just so handsome it kills me.  you also look like butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth – which is 100% true if we are talking about how kind and sweet you are to your little brother!

nixon.  if ever there was a jack baby it is you.  you look so much like your grandad in america it is pretty hilarious.  i think your david bain ear may be all your own though little sweetie.

ethan.  i had a gorgeous, happy pic of my big this week.  then this happened.  prior to his injury he had learnt how to drop into a ramp on his skateboard.  despite falling {hard} over, and over, he picked himself up and climbed back up until he nailed it.  so proud of him. and so sorry for him.

I’m so excited to be joining in with the 52 Project this year, especially now that I have two cherubs to photograph throughout the year!

Both of these pics were taken on the Canon during our week long holiday in Waipu.  I haven’t taken the 50mm lens off since I got it, has done wonders for my photography.

nixon.  loves everyone but is so enamoured with his nana.  these two will grow so close in the years to come, just as Ethan has.

ethan.  all day. everyday.  catching eels without hooks ’cause he doesn’t need them.  i actually saw him pull two eels at once from the pond with one piece of bait, tied to the line.  i cut his fingernails last night and commented on how filthy they were, he just looked at me, exasperated, and said “i AM a wild child mum”. touché.
