“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Nixon and Digger

nixon: so, dad took you to farmer’s unsupervised and despite offering you ‘numerous smaller toys’ this large digger was apparently all that your little heart desired.  i can’t even imagine what life would be like if we had a girl!

Tired Ethan

ethan: i have never, ever seen you this tired.  the second week of the school holidays was even busier than the first and after a series of sleep-overs and playdates plus a dinner party with friends last night i am quite sure that you have milked every second from the last two weeks.  the best thing is, you are still smiling.  right now as i type {at 7pm}, you are practising wrestling moves on the trampoline, smiling, happy, grubby and tired x

Nixon Eats Marmite Scroll

nixon: the eating.  my god.  you never stop with the hangry.  food, milk, water all of the time.  your dad and i baked a big batch of marmite and cheese and ham and cheese scrolls to pop in the freezer just for you and your massive appetite.  your feet are also massive.  the future does not bode well for our grocery bill.

Indoor Climbing Aucklandethan: first week of the holidays went swimmingly!  we made a list of all the things we wanted to do and it 100% obliterated the boredom, plus had the awesome effect i was hoping for: “mum, these are the BEST holidays ever!”.  and you know what?  we had a total stay-cation that week, spent minimal money and had two happy boys {sometimes more} all week.  i will totally be making an activity list every school holidays from now on.

 Nixon and Dumptruck

nixon: “dad-dad, i’m going to need this dump truck up there NOW”.  look at that little face!  you are desperate to get outdoors every second you possibly can, you love grass, dirt, sand, shells, rocks and what you love best is throwing all of these things.  15 months old this week little bear, i love you x

Brothers Playing in Sandpit

ethan: we were pretty sure your little brother would love the new sandpit, but it’s been so lovely to see you jump right in there with him and start playing!  you ran right inside as soon as you saw it and found some of your giant bugs and dinosaurs to donate to the sandpit toy collection.  you really do surprise me everyday x

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Phew, life got in the way a bit there and I’m 3 weeks behind, but I’m determined this will be the ONE memory keeping project that I start and finish this year!

36/52

Baby Nixon
nixon: we had been jammed up inside for what seemed like an eternity so I took you to a large field, carried you to the middle and let you loose! You were stoked. We ran, played, yelled and finished up on the playground. Little Man Unleashed!

My Big Boy

ethan:  a teasing glimpse of summer.  also, your hair is like a wire brush poor child.  you are such good company, i’m crossing my fingers that this will carry us through turbulent times ahead as you creep towards those teenage years x

37/52

 Ethan and I

ethan:  the old glassy-eyed not quite looking at the camera fake smile.  you should be smiling, you were just awarded Player of the Year!  so so proud of you, your are the mega-achieving, pride of my life x

Baby Boy and his Dog

nixon:  a boy and his dog.  it’s all i can do to keep you indoors these days, i’m quite sure that you actually cause as much mischief as possible so i throw my hands up and throw open the doors as soon as possible!

38/52

 Ethan and I

ethan:  home from camp!  3 nights on kawau island left you positively amped, we were so happy to have you home, things were too quiet and ’empty’ without you here x

Sleeping Bubba

nixon: a rare car-nap.  you are definitely not a good sleeper, never have been.  when you do nod off we roll with it and i always enjoy the minutes of peace that force me to sit still in the car with you and just be x

View from Lion Rock

ethan:  after a morning out at piha where we climbed lion rock, listened to a lone bagpiper serenading the beach from the summit and played in the sand you said multiple times in the car on the way home: “that was fun, i had a great time”.  so.  easy.  to.  please. simple things make you happy, make us all happy actually x

 Baby's playing together

nixon:  we had cousin ayla for the day on friday and i was slightly nervous as you are fast and ferocious.  you are not mean or naughty but you are a very physical baby and ayla is not!  you surprised me little man, you were so sweet and as gentle as you could be with her!  the two of you played beautifully together and we had such a nice day x

Oh lordy, a bit behind again…..

Kids Cooking

ethan:  getting you involved in cooking is a great way to get you ‘out of your head’ and off the electronics, plus you love helping and learning.  cooking is a big part of our family and having you in the kitchen with dad and i is lovely x

 Mummy and baby

nixon: gosh you are beautiful.  i look at this picture {thanks cat!} and that’s all i can think of.  i wish you knew how you have completed our family x

mummy-blog-kids-skateboarding

ethan:  back on your skateboard both days this weekend!  dad has set you up a wide old school santa cruz deck and you’re loving it!  after losing much of your summer to a fractured ankle from a skateboarding accident we really didn’t know if you’d ever be keen to skate again, but you are, and we’re stoked that you’re stoked x

z_mummy-blogger-baby

nixon: a better week at home, you are healing well and we are slowly getting to grips with your new hyperactive bowel {one day i changed your nappy 7 times before 12pm!}.  most days you are still sneaking in two naps but this is becoming a bit erratic so we’re both making the most of  your snoozy baby-ness while it lasts.

nix: one of the worst days for sure.  i’m just so glad the surgery and hospital stays are over baby, things aren’t too rosy on the other side just yet but they will get better x

nz-mummy-blog-the-best-nest

ethan:  you and your bestie entered a bowling competition {wtf?} and yeah, you got first and second.  i’m pretty sure that there actually isn’t anything the two of you can’t do if you’re doing it together.  that’s pretty awesome, it makes me so happy that you have found someone so rad to navigate being a young boy with x

nz_mummy_blog

nixie: we quarantined you in prep for your operation.  as always you made your own fun, returning to sit in this frame again and again pointing out faces and finding your beloved nana x

melissa_nz_mummy_blogger

ethan: we enjoyed a special family day at the zoo before your brother and i headed off to the hospital.  you played tour guide and got impatient with us as we lingered over pigs that your little brother was enjoying, but, you are a big kid now.  i keep forgetting and then i see us in a picture together and the fact that you will be 10 in three short months slaps me upside the head.  i hope you always want hugs from mum x

nixon: cheeky chops.  you were playing for ages with your trucks, quite independently.  i just sat and watched and took a thousand pics of you. just our standard morning really!  you are walking everywhere you can now, only crawling when you haven’t anything to pull up on, you are steady and getting faster by the day.  i think we have a toddler on our hands x player-of-theday-best-nest-mummy-blog

ethan: player of the day for the third time this season, a rare game when the sun was shining, it was warm and nix and i joined your dad on the sidelines to watch.  you have had a wonderful season {thank goodness}, your coach called you tony woodcock the 2nd and your proud mama’s heart went boom!
