Daily Look | Wake-up & Road Trip

New Zealand's Top Mummy Blogger Blog Summer roadtrip

A bit of an early start this morning courtesy of Nixon saw me considering plans for the day pre-7.30am.  Plenty of time to cram some more sun into this summer holiday!  I was considering inexpensive things the boys and I could do, beaches we could visit in Auckland when I remembered that there was actually no reason for us even to be in Auckland!

The boys didn’t need any convincing so we packed light and fast and hit the road heading for Mum’s in Waipu.  Driving off-peak on the open road in New Zealand is one of my favourite things to do and a little impulsiveness is always good for the soul don’t you think?

Somehow or other, it’s all working out.

Today, after quite a lovely, sunny weekend filled with friends and fun I hauled ass.

I hustled through a 5k, 2 loads of laundry, ALL the beds made, a writing deadline met, 3 GST returns completed, a walk with Nixie and the dogs, general tidying and lots of playtime with my little guy.  I kicked ass today.

Sometimes you don’t know how the hell you’re going to get it all done, but two coffees later it just falls in to place and you fall into bed at 11.30pm. Tired but happy.

Maybe I’ll get to those emails tomorrow, but who’s going to fire me if I don’t right?

Daily Look | The Best Nest

I know when you’re outside, looking in, other people’s lives can often appear to be a collection of perfectly styled images on Instagram, strung together in a series of well timed moments and effortless outfits.

This is the real deal.  Perhaps my favorite image of one of my sons and I.  Me in my hand-me-down dressing gown from my mum, odd mismatched pajamas, at least one dog always by my side, the general mess and disarray of Nixon’s room {this is all usually shoved out of shot when I’m shooting in here!} and the reason we are sitting and reading?  Mega-tantrums from the moment Nix awoke.  On repeat.  All day.

Welcome to my life, it’s just like yours really.

Daily Look | Winter’s Bounty

Between Mum’s place up north and our own trees (which are producing fruit in bulk for the first winter ever!), we have lots of home grown citrus and the babes are loving it!  Nixon is obsessed with mandarins.  I peeled him two for morning tea, then continued hanging out the washing.  Upon my return 5 minutes later I found the detritus of his tasting platter.  He’d climbed up onto the bench and been on a rampage through the fruit bowl.  This situation replays over and over in some way or another every minute of every day.  It is, Life With Nixon.

Daily Look | From Behind the Camera

After we had finished exploring the Auckland Domain E asked if he could take some pictures as we made our way back to the car.  “PLEASE TAKE THE CAMERA!” I was screaming inside as I was trying to wrangle a very tired wee Nixie and get him back to the truck with only the one huge bump to the head……don’t ask.

So, yes Ethan shot this amazeballs pic in AV mode.  Kids are rad.

Daily Look | Second Breakfast

Both our kids are BIG fans of second breakfasts.  If Nix has had porridge or eggs for breakfast he’ll devour a small smoothie in a mini milk bottle at about 9am.  At least if he starts the day with THIS much goodness in him I don’t stress too much about the amount he eats at dinner – which is when the wheels fall off lol.

Daily Look | At the End of the Path

Some days you just have to put on your overalls and go riding in the rain.  Or Mama will go cray-cray.  He won’t melt, he’s warm and so so happy, plus the potential for puddles is all a bit too exciting!  It’s hard to remember to say yes and think outside the box but when we do it can be so rewarding right?

Daily Look | The Big Brother Factor

This is a familiar scene at our house.  We are committed to having an open house policy for our boys and their friends, I mean, at Ethan’s age he’s much happier with his friends around and that makes my life easier so everyone wins.  Nixon, adores the big boys and they love him right back – at the moment anyway!

Daily Look | Someone missed me!

I’ve actually died and gone to heaven so if you need me………

Dave returned from Wellington with a selection of chocolates he picked for me from Bohemein Fresh Chocolates on Featherston St.  I’m a bit of a chocolate fiend, so I’m trying to restrain myself from gorging, but it’s so hard!  The most silky, creamy, delicious taste experience ever.  Think Whittakers 5-roll refined but a thousand times better.  And it came in a box.  HA!  Take that whole foods.
