A rare quiet moment where everyone was where they should be.
A rare quiet moment where everyone was where they should be.
One of my {small} goals for this year is to master the 6am wake-up. I am never late in the mornings but a crazy rush out of the house often involving multiple re-entries to retrieve locked-in dogs/keys/phone etc is not a graceful way to start the day.
So, as I return back to work this morning after a long weekend I did it! I got up early, showered, dressed, MADE MY BED, got breakfast ready for E, packed my lunch ………. all the while creeping around because Ethan is still asleep. 8.17am and E is snoring his head off.
So I will now back the truck out, load up and throw his breakfast in a tupperware while he sleeps and exit in a whirlwind once he wakes.
The lesson here is that even the best made plans are laid to waste in the wake of a sleeping child!
2gb less photos in 2011 than in 2010.
I know why, but it is still a surprise. Some whole months skipped without a single photo taken, though admittedly there were months this year in which it was hard to find the joy. Still we had some happy times, both with and without Dad, but I for one cannot wait to see the end of 2011. I was a bit loathe to use the first song in case I jinxed us. What if the Dog Days are not over? Surely they have to be, it seems like year after year has been getting harder, but I feel things are definitely on the upswing!
Have an awesome New Year everyone!
Love from Us xx
Last week as I sat at the side of the pool, Ethan’s swim instructor ejected all the kids from the pool to watch Ethan swim 25m of PERFECT breaststroke. I was proud. Until I realised that he had no business being in this class anymore and had been overlooked for advancement more than once. ETHAN OVERLOOKED!?! I don’t know this was possible or how I let this happen (I’ll blame Words With Friends) but the day had finally come when someone (ie TYLER Swim Instructor) had failed to notice Amazing Ethan. Of course I could not let this rest, after a brief discussion it was decided that Ethan would be assessed the following week. I put this down to one thing. Speed. The boy is built like a baby buffalo, whom I can imagine are not that aerodynamic whilst swimming laps. He is not the fastest kid in the stroke class but he has the endurance of an Ethiopian. Kid can swim and swim and swim with perfect technique.
Anywho, fast forward a week and Ethan is preparing to go to Nana’s for the day when I remind him he has swimming in the afternoon (which he will not miss because that shit costs money);
It’s very quiet here.
Ethan begins his new class next year : )
Stella, Ethan & Oskar - My Son and his 2nd Cousins
Finally there was sunshine! After a spring wetter than the wettest winter I can remember (it just doesn’t seem right to me?) we scored a beautiful respite today. Blazing sun and a blue sky above us the WHOLE time we were at the pools. Considering I had booked my little couzzies in for this playdate over a week ago I would say we scored big time.
I had the best day in so long I can’t even remember. These three little people are so cool. Fun, spunky, well-mannered, caring and gracious – and Ethan tried really hard too lol!
Two weeks ago the worst two weeks of my life began. Actually they began nine months ago when Dad came home from work early one day. Really early. He walked into the house and said “I might have cancer”. That was the first time we cried. We haven’t stopped crying yet.
Dad did what he needed to do. He fought the whole damn nine months. He refused to ever consider even for a second that this was a battle he couldn’t win. He looked to the future, he tried whatever options were available to him and he was the husband and father we knew and loved right to the end.
To the bestest Dad in the world, you are my hero xxxx
