Things I’m Loving

 * Loving 3kgs of my tomatoes in 3 DAYS!  We are chomping throughout them though so I’m not sure if we will even need to make sauce or chutney with the excess!

 * Lovimg summer nights, E is making good use of the extra playtime hours with some mean-as ninjago moves on the tramp

 * Dave is getting organised for school lunches and whipped up some ham and cheese pizza rolls this week.  Amaze.  Using the bread maker for the dough resulted in silky smooth dough, we are going to make some this weekend with franks in them for sandwich alternatives.

 * Mum and I had so much fun up north poking around in all of the vintage shops; we found some Crowne Lynn treasures to bring home including two beehive mixing bowls!  I saw this tray of vintage buttons and thought of all of you crafty bloggers that would make so many wonderful things with them!

*  Loving our schools decision to use Eeny Meeny for stationary this year, this service is definitely worth $5 in postage to me.  One click to choose our school, one click to choose the correct year, boom, stationary pack ordered.

 * OMG.  LOVING Shorty at the moment, tonight’s going to be SO good.  You’re going down Zac….. (finally)

 * Loving this little piece of paper which means I go for my anatomy scan on TUESDAY!!!  We are splashing out and going for a 3d scan just because we have never had one and this one is a pretty big deal.  Very excited, plus my Mum has almost run out of the gender neutral baby items to buy lol

 * So much Loving Westpac Hotpoints, they add up so quickly as we use our cards for all monthly spending and pay them off in full at the end of the month helping to reduce interest costs on our mortgage.  I have just received the first Baby City gift card, which I am going to collect and file away for help towards a big ticket item in a few months.

Things I’m Loving | A Mixed Bag

1. Amazing days up north at our awesome rented bach
2. I found a recipe for Peach Cobbler on Pinterest that looked divine and after a week of procrastinating, Dave got sick of waiting for me to make it and whipped it up himself. Amaze.
3. On our way up north we stopped in ‘scenic’ Wellsford for a bakery refuel. Let me introduce you to the wonder that is the Kransky Mashed Potato Pie. I’m in love.
4. Loving Baby’s first Country Road pressie, thanks Mum x
5. Ethan surprisingly, did love waking before 6am this morning to go fishing and caught himself a gurnard for his troubles. His behaviour for the rest of the day was not so loveable but tomorrow is another day.

Things I’m Loving | Pickles & Peppers

Mustard_Mayonnaise_PicklesPurple Capsicum

1.  Mustard, mayonnaise and pickles.  A magical trifecta of perfect sandwiches.  Preferably on croissants, with ham or chicken.  I am loving this trio so much at the moment I could eat eat sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

2.  We have mysteriously ended up with a purple capsicum {which means I purchased a purple capsicum I suppose, though I don’t remember doing this} and it is fruiting.  I left the peppers on the plant for ages thinking they might change colour, but they are stubborn and demand to be eaten PURPLE.  Which is ok, as they are actually delicious.

3.  Loving Star Wars Light Sabre fights which cause a massive flurry of barking and much chasing, running and yelling.  Ethan has had these swords since he was 4 {I think?} and they are getting more use this summer than they have in the last four years combined!

4.  Quiet moments are rare in our house as Dave and Ethan don’t do “quiet time” well.  In fact Dave can’t do it at all.  A constant stream of activity needs to be maintained at all times.  I loved seeing E take some time out to listen to his music and play one of his fab Christmas Games – Sink or Swim –  that he received from his Nana.

5.  There has been so much skateboarding and scootering these holidays which has been great for the boys.  I loved seeing this image pop up in my Instagram feed as Dave snuck off for a lunchtime skate break.

6.  Oh Sal’s Pizza.  I.  LOVE.  YOU.

Things I’m Loving | Burritos, Go Karts, Dahlias etc

Sky_Tower_from_Ponsonby_RdGo Karting Working_from_home Red_Dahlia Replica_Eames_Rocker Dropping_in

  1. Loving the amazing view of Auckland City from the Taqueria on Ponsonby Road.  Good burritos that make up for their lack of authenticity with generally good yumminess and grande size!
  2. Loving that E got to try something new at a birthday party in the weekend.  The kids went Go-Karting and freaking LOVED it!  I’m fairly certain you can see that boy smiling through his helmet.
  3. Loving Dave finding new “offices” around the house, depending on where the blistering sun is shining.  You can’t see his headphones in, but he was in a phone meeting with a chap from South Africa when I snapped this.
  4. I know I tend to go on and on about our Dahlias but they were all mystery bulbs given by my Nana and Great Aunty so we had no idea which colours they would be – happy to report we have a new red and a new white blooming!  That red just may be my entry to the Kumeu Show this year if the blooms get a wee bit bigger before March, fingers crossed.
  5. Loving this replica Eames rocker I spotted in Nood last week.  But the price…… would be the perfect rocker for the new nursery as egg shell blue is a good neutral, but the price…….even on sale…..
  6. Loving an empty skatepark where the boys can do their thing without too many unsupervised little ones and ZERO bikers.  yay.

Things I’m Loving

Today is the last day of our very relaxing stay-cation, both Dave and I head back to work on Monday leaving Nana and Ethan to hold down the fort in holiday mode for the rest of the month.

The numero uno thing I am loving is the new WordPress Media Editor released in the latest WP update, this will def help me keep my blog well endowed with pics this year.  The old format was so tired and cumbersome, this was a very pleasant and well needed surprise!

The sun managed to come out this week and we enjoyed some amazing blue sky days at our favourite spot up north.  I would so much rather drive for just over an hour to spend the day here than sit in the car for 2 hours at an inner city beach waiting for a carpark!  Did you guys read this story?  Unbelievable.  Loving our new Kathmandu beach shelter, it’s so nice to have a cool shady spot in the afternoon when you just can’t take any more sun!

Loving my Kindle this summer.  I have recently downloaded a couple of the latest NY Times Bestseller lists, so it’s choca-block full of lovely reading material for lazy afternoons!  If you haven’t discovered Calibre yet I can highly recommend it.  It will manage your Kindle (or any e-reader) library and convert and downloaded e-book into Kindle friendly format.

Dave and E have joined forces this summer and are at the Skatepark every available second.  Though E is not yet on a skateboard {something his Dad has had to learn to accept} he is charging on his precious MGP scooter.  He drops in to everything; watching the videos they make just about give me heart failure!  I am proud of his confidence and also the skate park etiquette that his Dad has made sure to teach him over the years.  It has made being regulars at Victoria Park much easier for both Ethan and Dave.

Though I didn’t hit the shops on Boxing Day, I may have made an excursion or two since then.  Loving the Country Road sale, have picked up some great bargains.

Whenever Ethan asked me what I wanted for Christmas, all I could think of was a box of Cadbury Continental Chocolates.  These were such a common gift at Christmas time when I was a kid, but seem to have fallen off as Favourites and Roses have become more popular.  I got my wish and enjoyed every last one of them!

Remember last week I said my tomatoes were just about ready?  Taaaa-dahhh!  So sweet and delicious, I can’t get enough of them.  During my last short pregnancy (missed-miscarriage) I couldn’t stand tomatoes but this time around I am charging them back – with lashings of cream cheese and avocado of course ; )

Have a great week and don’t forget to click on the link below and see what other people are loving!

Things I’m Loving

I am SO very much loving the last few days. Christmas was lovely but post-Christmas relaxing is even better. The weather has been undeniable rotten, but I think the incessant drizzle has helped us keep the pace s l o w.

Christmas Dinner

Mum has of course hosted Christmas dinner before but it was the first time for Dave and I. 35 of our family rolled up and it was awesome! We had over-catered (of course) but the leftovers are amaze, the rain held off and we now know that our house can handle a big crowd with ease. Having a large family has always made Christmas fun and Ethan rates seeing his out-of-town cousins as the best thing about Christmas. I love that.

Christmas Dashy

The four dogs coped well with the Christmas influx, luckily we have some very dog-friendly rellies who were always up for a cuddle with dodgy Dash and managed to prevent his anxiety from getting the better of him.

Summer Stripes & cottons at Country Road

Loving soft cottons and summer prints from Country Road. Their sale is brilliant btw.

Star Wars Lego

Oh Star Wars Lego. You are everywhere. You haven’t made it under my feet yet, but I’m going to want the coffee table back at some point in the near future. Loving your games Ethan, play on.

I LOVE Dahlias. This is our first year growing them and they have gone bonkers, dinner plate sized blooms on each plant.

Home grown tomatoes

Finally loving that my tomatoes have also gone buck-wild this summer and the first of our crop are just about ready for picking.

Have a great holiday week everyone!

Things I’m Loving

Contrary to some who are freaking out over how close Christmas is.  I cannot wait.  To not have to work, for a week at least is going to be amazing.  This week has been a good one, we celebrated Ethan’s eighth birthday and Thanksgiving, plus I made it to Friday afternoon and all I can think about is Burger Fuel!

This week I loved Wattie’s Spaghetti on Vogel’s toast,

I also loved Pheonix Sparkling Feijoa drink.  It’s that pesky ‘O’ word in there that makes this so expensive isn’t it?  Aren’t all feijoas organic or near to it?  I mean surely every feijoa in the world is gown on someones backyard tree, I can’t say I’ve ever come across a feijoa orchard, have you?

We had an amazing Thanksgiving dinner cooked by my sister-in-law with some help from her Assistant Dave.  They rustled up a to die for turkey, ham, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and gravy, plus pumpkin pie, apple pie and Jo’s trademark fruity dessert cups.  Seriously good eating!

Happy Birthday Ethan

We had so much fun this year making sure E had ‘the BEST birthday ever’.  He adored his long-awaited MGP scooter and all the other bits and bobs he received.  I am actually waiting for he and Dave to get home from a fishing charter given to him by his Nana!  Lucky boys.

Loving what has to be Dave’s Best Ever leftover meal.  He made a bunch of chilli on sunday night, it went so far with the addition of beans and combined with rice that we had tonnes left over.  He stuffed cannelloni tubes with the mix, whipped up a tomato based sauce, grated some cheese on top, baked and served with a dollop of sour cream.  Amaze.

Things I’m Loving

We have just returned back from a wee work trip (for me) up north to Paihia and I am feeling slightly better than I have been lately, at least well enough to focus on throwing a post together!

Summer Vege Garden

I am loving our summer vege garden, the last two weeks have seen everything go mad!  So much so that when I checked our courgettes today we have a triple-banger, somehow three courgettes have merged into one very strange looking oblong!  We have planted capsicum, guava, grapes, passionfruit, blueberries, blackberries, courgettes, tomatoes, spinach and lettuce.

Watching Obama Win!

So stoked that my little American and I got to watch President Obama win his second election, the thought of an ignorant religious zealot getting voted in makes me feel stabby and quite sick to my stomach ::::shudder::::.

New Truck

Totally loving our new truck, which remained new for all of five days, when after that I reversed it into a parking guard rail. ?*#!!!!!!!!.  It’s very big, in my defence.

These two are just peas in a pod at the moment.  It hasn’t always been this way, Ethan has been very close to me his whole life but oh my the times are a-changing.  Dave woke in our hotel this weekend to find Ethan standing over him, desperate for him to wake up – fishing was on the agenda of course!

Also loving Dave’s amazing haul last week, by the end of the fish bounty I may just have had enough for a wee while at least (can’t believe I even typed that! slaps hand).

My big-little boy is turning eight this week and I can’t get enough of him at the moment.  He was so much fun to hang out with this weekend and has been so considerate and caring when I’ve not been feeling well.  I’m loving how his invitations turned out, we are going to have so much fun in the forest next weekend!

Things I’m loving

So I am a bit late in posting but I wanted/needed to be thankful as this week has been rough.  Tears, frustration, anger, stress and anxiety  beat me down, almost.  We survived and I can think of many things that make me smile again.

Ethan forgot he was wearing his headband from a Samoan dance performance and sported it whilst we were grocery shopping.  He would never voluntarily do things like this so I couldn’t resist snapping a pic of my quickly disappearing little boy!

E has no problem dressing up for Halloween though!  We had an amazing evening on Wednesday walking around our lovely neighbourhood with some other great Mums.  There were so many safe houses, some of them decorated to the hilt!  We kicked things off at the Scout Den where a very scary House of Horror had been installed, so scary it was almost a bit much for our nearly-eight year old Trick or Treaters.

We love fireworks and Guy Fawkes but three out of our four dogs do not.  Poor Louie started off at the foot of the bed and inched his way up until he was sharing Dave’s pillow.  I love a cuddly Shi Tzu, even if the poor guy is shaking with fear.

Loving a little lunch Date with Dave.  Bombay pizza from GPK has been my fave since I was 18 and it still has not let me down.  Banana on pizza is the business!  Also getting used to my iPhone 5, this is an unedited pic and i think it’s pretty amaze, though I have experienced the yucky purple halo that many critics have attributed to the lens in the new phone.

Loving that our new truck is no longer our new truck.  We had it for 15 days and found out the odometer had been disconnected.  This was the cause of much distress this week.  Dave got it sorted and got our money back and we pick up our new truck tomorrow.  Buying cars is so stressful!

Loving the blue sky patches that are getting more and more common, we have had some fab weather the last couple of weeks, you can definitely tell as the water trucks have started returning to our neighbourhood {better go check the tank actually!}.

I am loving my wee brass animal collection that is growing, slowly into a full-blown ornament menagerie!  I have a family of pigs and a little bird arriving any day now via Trade Me.

Brass Animals

Things I’m Loving ::::caution:::: Whining Mummy Blogger ahead

That’s it people.  That’s all I have this week.  The last bite of bakery caramel slice that just went up in price .60c and simultaneously shrunk.  The nerve of you Hollywood Bakery!

I am tired, I don’t feel good, my bank manager is away and the women who is supposed to take care of his customers is a fucking moron {just thinking about the immense headache of trying to fix my mortgage makes me feel stabby – 5.1% for the angry lady though hello!}.  I guess I am loving that.  So now we are up to two.  Two Things I am Loving.

What else?

I can only think of things I am Hating.  This is the sad truth.  I am prepared to concede that this is probably in part due to a new lack of antidepressants in my system, my happy pills have succeeded in making me happy-ish for a good number of years now, but it is time to bid them adieu.  We’ll talk more about that later.

So instead of  a stream of happy iPhone photos, depicting perfect family life, I present to you a short bullet point list of thinks I Kind of Like this week;

  1. Diet Coke
  2. Hot cocktail sausages
  3. Bread
  4. Ethan {he has been perfect this week, bless his filthy wee feet}
  5. Friday after 2pm.  Kind of.  There is a Tupperware party to go to tonight which really could go either way.

Happy Friday!  Let’s cross our fingers for Rainbows and Unicorns over the weekend shall we?
